You can use secure connections for POP3, IMAP and SMTP connections. To do so, follow these directions:

POP3 server: mail.ethicalhost.ca    Port: 995

You can check off that the POP server requires a secure connection (note it is different than the setting that says use secure password authentication SPA) on port 995 and if you are not using mail.ethicalhost.ca as the host name, you will get a certificate notification error that says:The Certificates CN name does not match the passed value. Click YES to continue using this server as this is not a problem and is expected.These settings will generally be found in the advanced section of your e-mail client.

SMTP server:  mail.ethicalhost.ca    Port: 465 or 587

you can use PORT 465 (SSL) or 587(TLS). You should only have to say yes once to those warning messages for each.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you continually get the messages poping up, your email program has a problem storing the certificate information and you can either choose a new mail client OR Change the pop3 and smtp server settings to mail.ethicalhost.ca instead.

IMAP server: mail.ethicalhost.ca  Port: 993

If you want to use IMAP over secure connection, use PORT: 993
